Mold sampling and testing guidance
Different environmental sampling methods answer different questions. This guide explains common approaches to investigating mold, damp and indoor-environment concerns, and when testing may or may not help.

Air sampling provides a snapshot of airborne material. Settled-dust analysis can reflect what has accumulated over time. Surface sampling may help investigate suspected growth, while moisture assessment can identify conditions that support damp and mold.
Testing is not always the first step
Inspection, tracing a leak, drying or remediation may be more useful than testing in some situations. The best route depends on the building and the decision you need to make.
